Our Veggie Patch

At Our Lady of the Rosary, we are passionate gardeners.

Thanks to the Sydney Edible Garden Trail and Bunnings Thornleigh, we’ve established numerous garden beds filled with edible plants. A collaborative effort involving students, parents, teachers, and OOSH has significantly enhanced the lower playground. We’re also dedicated to composting food scraps. Positioned in a sunny area, our gardens have yielded an abundance of vegetables, which are often incorporated into meals at the canteen on Thursdays and Fridays. Additionally, our school is proud to feature two vegetable pods and a wicking bed, tended by our students, producing lettuce, broccoli, tomatoes, and carrots.

In STEM classes, students explore the processes of seed germination, transplanting seedlings, and the essentials of plant growth. The gardens are equipped with self-watering systems and solar panels installed by the Year 4 students, with OOSH ensuring the water levels are maintained. We have exciting plans for the upcoming year, so stay tuned for updates and be sure to visit our garden during your next visit to the school.
